Inverse Operations


  • An inverse operation is something that does the opposite of the original action.

  • Inverse operations are also found outside of math.

  • Outside of math, examples of inverse operations are :
    Filling a glass up with water - pouring the water out of the glass
    Putting on your socks then your shoes - taking off your shoes then your socks
    Putting money in the back - taking money out of the bank

  • Examples of inverse operations in math are :
    Add 8 - subtract 8
    Multiply by 12 - divide by 12
    Subtract 5 - add 5
    Divide by 10 - multiply by 10
