7th Grade Math / Lesson 10: Symmetry

SYMMETRY What will we be learning in this lesson? In this lesson, you will learn about symmetry of shapes. Vocabulary words are found in this purple color throughout the lesson. Remember to put these in your notebook.

Symmetry If something has symmetry, it is said to have a balance to it and is pleasing to the eye. A type of symmetry is called line symmetry. Line symmetry is when you can fold the design and the two sides of the design end up being identical (congruent). In other words, the same. Things that are symmetric are actually the same on each side of the figure. When this happens, there is a line of symmetry that can be drawn. This is the line that cuts the design into two shapes that are identical.

Symmetry Determine if the shapes are symmetric. If they are, draw the line of symmetry. Symmetry Determine if the shapes are symmetric. If they are, draw the line of symmetry. Can you identify symmetric figures? Can you draw a line of symmetry? Go back to the classroom to get to your homework and any other items you need to attend to.
