The great horned owl is native to many parts of the Americas. They live in a wide variety of habitats such as in trees that include deciduous, coniferous, and mixed forests, tropical rainforests, prairie, mountainous areas, deserts, tundra, rocky coasts, and some urban areas. Its "horns" are neither ears nor horns, simply tufts of feathers. Their call can be heard and easily recognized as ho-ho-hoo hoo hoo.
