Washington is home to many landmarks including: The Whitehouse, the Washington
Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and many others.
The Washington Monument, as shown to the right, was built to honor George
Washington, commander-in-chief of the continental army, and first president
of the United States.
The monument was completed and dedicated in 1885. It is a white marble
structure 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches tall.
The Smithsonian Institution is the largest museum in Washington, D.C..
The Smithsonian Institution consists of several museums including: the
National Museum of Natural History; the National Air and Space Museum;
the National Museum of American Art; and, the National Museum of African
