There are about 500 species salamander in the world. They are native to most of the world, except for Africa, Australia and Antarctica. Most salamanders look similar to lizards, with slender bodies, short noses, and long tails. However, not all salamanders have limbs. Salamanders can usually be found in or near water or wetlands. Although many salamanders live on land, some salamanders spend all of their adult lives in water. Salamanders have the interesting capability of being able to regenerate lost limbs or other body parts. Play the following videos to learn more about the salamander. Also see our videos on the Blue-spotted Salamander, Chinese Giant Salamander, Fire Salamander and Tiger Salamander.
