The terms aerobic and anaerobic are often used to describe two different forms of exercise. Aerobic exercise referring to endurance exercises such as biking, running or swimming. Anaerobic exercise referring to strength training and weight training. However, these terms have more specific meaning in muscle activity and cell respiration. Energy produced through aerobic respiration requires oxygen. In aerobic respiration, glucose and oxygen are converted into energy, carbon dioxide and water. Anaerobic respiration takes place in the absence of oxygen. In anaerobic respiration, glucose is converted into energy and lactic acid.
