Small Intestine Video

The small intestine is the longest portion of the digestive tract, over 16 feet (5 meters) long. After food leaves the stomach, it proceeds to the small intestine located in the middle of the abdomen. The small intestine consists of three sections: the duodenum, the jejunum and the ileum. Most of the chemical digestion takes place in the small intestine. Nutrients including carbohydrate, fat, and protein are absorbed by the small intestine, and enter the blood stream.
