The colonists considered these Intolerable Acts, or Coercive Acts, to be attacks on their freedom. In response, the colonists held the First Continental Congress to discuss what should be done about these laws. The congress was held September 5, 1774, at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was attended by 56 members from twelve of the Thirteen Colonies. The Province of Georgia did not send delegates. The congress decided to boycott British goods and send a request to King George to remove the repressive laws. The congress also decided to meet again at a Second Continental Congress on May 10, 1775. Their appeal to King George to eliminate the Intolerable Acts was unsuccessful, thus leading to the American Revolutionary War.
