The ruby-throated hummingbird is native to: the Canadian prairies; eastern Canada, United States and Mexico; Central America; and, parts of South America. Its habitat is deciduous and pine forests and forest edges, orchards, and gardens. The hummingbird has strong flight muscles and blade-like wingsallowing it to fly not only forward, but also straight up and down, sideways, and backwards, and to hover in front of flowers as it feeds on nectar and insects.
