A heart monitor, as the name implies, monitors your heart. Monitors can come in many forms. Simple heart rate monitors can be worn during exercising to measure heart rate. More complex and expensive medical or ECG monitors are used by doctors to monitor electrocardiograms. This section primarily refers to ECG monitors used by doctors to view electrocardiograms. Medical Monitor Tracking ECG and other Vital Sign

The ECG monitor is an electronic medical device used to measure a patient's vital signs such as an electrocardiogram.

Since the heart beat is stimulated by electrical activity, this electrical signal can be measured and tracked by a medical monitor. Electrodes are placed on the chest, and sometimes arms and legs. These electrodes measure the electrical activity which is then displayed on the monitor or printed on graph paper. Doctors can use this information to determine if a patient's heart is functioning properly, and if not, to potentially diagnose the problem.
