Rounding Numbers

ROUNDING SINGLE DIGIT NUMBERS:

1.  A digit less than 5 rounds down to zero.

2. A digit greater than (or) equal to 5 rounds up to ten.

ROUNDING MULTI- DIGIT NUMBERS:

Round 5,427 to the nearest ten.

1. Underline the digit in the tens place.

            5,4 27

2. Circle the digit to the right of the tens place.

3. If the circled digit is 5 or above, the tens place will round up.
    Add 1 to the digit in tens place and put zero in the units place.

Example: Round 5,425 to the nearest ten.

4.  If the circled digit is below 5, the tens place will round down.
      Simply put zero in the units place.
