The mathematical sentence "x + 4 = 9" is neither true nor false unless 'x' is replaced by a number. If x is replaced by 5 then, X(5) + 4 = 9 is definitely true. The number that replaces the variable is called the solution. Examples: x + 4 = 9 then x = 5 x + 7 = 10 then x = 3
