Collecting the Data

We can collect data by ourselves. This is called primary data. Data can also come from published reports, official statistics collected by the government, or other sources. This data is called secondary data.


Recording the Data

After collecting the data we need to find better ways to record the data.

Suppose there are 10 students in Grade 3, and in a test out of 50 Marks, they scored as below.

         45, 50, 32, 15, 10, 47, 5, 23, 40, 7 

Data in this form is called raw data.

Let us suppose again, we wish to judge the standard of achievement of Grade 3. Raw data doesn't give a clear picture. Let us arrange it in ascending or descending order.

         5, 7, 10, 15, 23, 32, 40, 45, 47, 50

Data arranged in this fashion is called Arrayed Data.
