The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body, and the largest gland in the body. It is responsible for processing and storing nutrients. The liver produces bile that is stored in the gallbladder between meals. The bile is released into the small intestine during food consumption to breakdown fats. The liver is also responsible for cleansing or detoxifying the blood. Substances the body cannot use, such as toxins, are extracted and delivered to other digestive processes for disposal.
