The ring-necked pheasant, or common pheasant, is native to Asia and has been widely introduced in other parts of the world as a game bird. It is now common in Europe, North America and Australia. The male has bright gold and brown plumage with green, purple and white markings. Its head is green with a small red crest around the eye and a white neck ring. It is the South Dakota State Bird.
