Nervous System Video:Autonomic Nervous System Video |
Motor nerves or motor neurons are a type of cell that directly or indirectly controls muscle contraction. Motor neurons consist of four main components: the dendrites, cell body, nucleus and axon. The cell body, including the nucleus, control operation of the motor neuron. Dendrites receive electrochemical signals from the brain and spinal cord. This results in electrical impulses traveling along the axon, or nerve fiber, to the muscles causing contraction. Watch the following videos to learn more about the motor neuron. For additional information, also see our motor neuron reference materials. |
