Ticks are small parasites that live on the blood of mammals, birds, and occasionally reptiles and amphibians. They are often found in tall grass and shrubs, where they will wait to attach to a passing animal. Like other arachnids, ticks have eight legs. They do not jump or fly, so they must have physical contact to attach to an animal. Once attached, the tick inserts its mandibles and feeding tube into the skin. They will then feed on the blood of their host animal. Ticks are known to carry a variety of diseases, such as lyme disease. Lyme disease can cause serious health problems for humans, animals and pets. Play the following videos to learn more about the tick.
