Muscles and the Nervous System Video

Muscle control is the responsibility of our central nervous system. Contraction of cardiac muscle is controlled by an internal pacemaker and the autonomic nervous system. It is an involuntary muscle, not under our conscious control. Smooth muscle, such as in the digestive system, is also controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Like heart muscle, it is not under our conscious control. Skeletal muscle is controlled by the somatic nervous system and are under our conscious or voluntary control.
