Ligaments are tough, fibrous tissue that connect one bone to another bone, and form a joint. Ligaments provide joint stability, and a limited range of motion at the joint. They generally do not provide the same level of joint movement as muscles. A major function of ligaments is to prevent excessive range of motion that might damage a joint. There are many ligaments in the body, such as in the neck, shoulder, wrist, knee and spine. To learn more about ligament, check out the following videos. For additional information, also see our ligament reference materials.
