Humans grow two sets of teeth in their lifetime. The first set of teeth, called baby teeth, start growing at about the age of six months. By the age of twelve or thirteen, a second set of permanent teeth replace the baby teeth. Most adults have 32 teeth, with 16 located in the upper jaw and 16 located in the lower jaw. The teeth are part of the first stage of digestion. They are used to cut, tear, crush and grind food into small digestible pieces. Interested in learning more about the teeth? Check out the following videos on teeth. For additional information, also see our teeth reference materials.
