The mathematical sentence "x + 4 = 9" is neither true nor false unless 'x' is replaced by a number.

If x is replaced by 5 then,

X(5) + 4 = 9 is definitely true.

The number that replaces the variable is called the solution.

Examples:

x + 4 = 9  then  x = 5

x + 7 = 10  then  x = 3
