Distinguishing the Relevant from Irrelevant

This skill is one where you as a learner first identify what kinds of facts, data, stories, numbers, observations, and so on that you need in order to reach your learning goal; such as solving a problem writing a paper or making a decision. Once you know what kinds of information you need you are then able to SIFT through the information you are looking at and pull out the relevant or helpful data from that which is not going to be useful. Distinguishing is a filtering and sifting process.
